Alicioustravels: Achensee

Mr A and myself had been contemplating a hiking trip in early summer for a while but only now did we decide to actually book it. While initially Alto Adige or Lake Garda in Italy together with the area around Bled in Slovenia were our favoured destinations, we eventually decided on a place much closer – and in Austria.

Achensee.

This particular area in Northern Tyrol offers everthing Mr A are looking for in this week-long getaway: nigh endless possibilities for hiking, gorgeous views over the lake, an opportunity to take a boat across the lake – and the odd via ferrata thrown in for good measure.

At the moment, the weather forecast is in highly in our favour and I’ll pack my kindle for the unlikely event of sudden rainfall preventing us from setting out in the morning or convincing us to return to our apartment sooner than planned.

Brace yourself and your instagram feed for a whole flood of photos picturing Austrian stereotypes of green pastures, snow-capped mountains and the odd cow.
