Alicioustravels: A long weekend of hiking at Gesäuse

For his birthday Mr A had received a voucher for a night at a small B&B in the Gesäuse region, a national park in Styria. My Dad has stayed at the B&B numerous times and had asked the owners if they were willing to provide us with food during our stay. They agreed asking we call them a few days in advance so I could discuss my special request with the chef.

Alicioustravels: NEW SERIES Travel Essentials

I have been used to going on holidays from a very young age. As soon as I considered myself old enough, I started travelling on my own. Most of my friends will consider me “well-travelled” while I will look at a map and see all those places I have never been to – and many more that I would love to see again. Real mountains to hike, climb and ski. Over the years, Rax has evolved as the favourite mountain of choice for a relaxing day trip. Alicioustravels: Walking the Annapurna Circuit

Walking the Annapurna Circuit was something people had recommended I do whilst travelling Nepal. I wasn’t so sure about this. 2-3 weeks of walking, by myself, crossing a 5,400m high pass didn’t sound all that appealing to me. Would I even be physically able (i.e. fit enough) to do it? I wasn’t at all sure about it. Continue reading Alicioustravels: Walking the Annapurna Circuit

Alicioustravels: An Ode to Achensee

As you will have seen on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, we had a pretty awesome week: gorgeous mountain weather with blue skies and little wind, barely any other tourists and a lovely apartment – all in a prime locations for people who love the outdoors.

Our getaway to Achensee last week was so perfect in every way that we were not only reluctant to leave, we actually added another day and only arrived back in Vienna yesterday. I guess that says it all. Continue reading Alicioustravels: An Ode to Achensee
