Over the next 50-or-so years, pursuing these dreams will keep me occupied in my free time (especially since this list is a work-in-progress)

  • Take a Thai cooking class in Thailand
  • Grow my own vegetables – since 2013
  • Travel to Bolivia once more and revisit the Salar de Uyuni – in the rain
  • Travel to Laos once more and revisit Luang Prabang; find out if it still does to me what it did for me in 2007
  • Learn to scuba dive – since 2005
  • Learn to sew
  • Do an overnight sailing trip – Whitsunday Islands (Australia), August 2006
  • Swim with manatees
  • Travel to Malaysia once more – and actually like it. I simply wasn’t really overwhelmed the first time around.
  • Travel by hot air balloon
  • Eat pad thai from a street stall in Thailand – February 2007 and December 2011
  • Go island-hopping in Greece – September 2011

  • Drink vodka on the Transsibirian Railway

  • Observe dolphins in their natural habitat – off the east and west coast of Australia (2006); off Kaikoura, the Otago Peninsula, Doubtful and Milford Sound and the Bay of Islands (2003, 2006 and 2014). It never gets boring.
  • Observe a koala in its natural habitat – Magnetic Island, Australia (August 2006)
  • Observe kangaroos in their natural habitat – all over Australia between 2006 and 2008
  • Observe gorillas in their natural habitat

  • Lived with a German-Nepali family in Kathmandu (Nepal), April – Mai 2007
  • Took a (free!) tango argentino class in Buenos Aires (Argentina), June 2006
  • Drank a coca mojito in La Paz (Bolivia), July 2006
  • Got stuck in Mendoza (Argentina) due to snow that closed the roads to Chile and basically lived off steak and red wine for a week, July 2006
  • When the roads re-opened, I took the bus from Mendoza (Argentina) to Santiago de Chile – across the Andes and passing by right next to magnificent Aconcagua, July 2006
  • Got invited to a genuine asado in Buenos Aires (Argentina), June 2006
  • Had the arrivals hall at Auckland International Airport break into applause as I went through the doors (long, hilarious story involving a very special Couchsurfer/ friend), February 2008
  • Paid off my debts, December 2013
  • Visited Sky Lake outside of Lhasa (Tibet), Mai 2006Soaked in a hot pool in the Himalayas (Tibet), Mai 2006
  • Watched whales and dolphins off the Australian East and West coast, August – October 2006

  • Gorged myself on green, yellow and red curry, banana pancakes and mango sticky rice in Thailand, February 2007 and December 2011
  • Had the most filling thukpa (Tibetan soup) at Sky Lake (Tibet), Mai 2007
  • Took a late-night cruise on the Seine river in Paris (France), August 2005
  • Had gelato, pizza, pasta and vino in Italy, most recently in September 2013
  • Completed the via ferrata Brigata Tridentina (“Piscadú”) in the Dolomites (Italy), September 2013
  • Joined a friend and others to celebrate her hen’s weekend in Florence – by going to museums, taking long walks through the city and being on permanent lookout for food and vino, Mai 2010
  • Got almost entirely rid of feeling envy (not completed yet)
  • Went paragliding in Salta (Argentina), July 2006
  • Rode public busses around Thailand, February 2007 and December 2011
  • Walked along Isla del Sol on Lake Titicaca (Bolivia) with a breathtaking view of the Andes, July 2006
  • Watched the sunrise from Poon Hill (Nepal), bathing first Dhaulaghiri, then the Annapurnas, Fishtail Mountain and others in pink, then orange, then yellow light, April 2007
  • Cycled from temple to temple near Siem Reap (Cambodia), March 2007 and December 2011
  • Watched the West Coast Eagles play at their home ground (then Subiaco Oval) in Perth (Australia) with an AFL-crazy family screaming their heads off, September 2006
  • Watched (extraordinarily fit) elder locals practice Tai Chi at Temple of Heaven Park (Tiantan Park) in Beijing (China), Mai 2007
  • Ate dhal bat in Nepal in April 2001 and April 2007
  • Watched the sun rise and set multiple times from different temples/ places around Siem Reap (Cambodia), March 2007 and December 2011
  • Attended various Cirque du Soleil shows – Varekai 2006, Saltimbanco 2009, Corteo 2011
  • Skinny dipped in various countries on various beaches on various occasions
  • Bought ice cream from an ice cream truck  in Canberra (Australia), 2007
  • Walked on the Great Wall of China, climbed inside the Cheops Pyramid, walked up the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, across the Forum Romanum and through the Colosseum
  • Watched sunsets and/ or sunrises in the Australian outback as well as in each Australian state and territory, the Salar de Uyuni (Bolivia), the Alps (Austrian, Italian, New Zealand), in Oía and Thira (on the island of Santorini, Greece), Easter Island, the Andes and the Atacama desert, the Annapurna region of the Himalayas, various places in Thailand, on the Mekong river (in different countries), the temples of Angkor, from planes, sail boats and my swag, alone, with strangers and friends
  • Attended an ANZAC Day morning service and later that day the ANZAC Day AFL game at MCG – Melbourne, Australia (April 2006)
  • Travelled Syria for two weeks with an amazing group of approx 20 fellow students and our favourite profs – September 2005
  • Haggled my way around Syria, Turkey, Bolivia and all over South East Asia – ongoing until I’ll stop travelling
  • Observed different types of turtles, crayfish, moray eels, rays and sharks in the wild while diving (Red Sea, Egypt; off the Australian coast; Poor Knights Islands and Milford Sound, New Zealand; around Koh Phi Phi Leh, Thailand)
  • Spotted different kinds of penguins, seals/ sea lions, whales, dolphins, kangaroos of all shapes and sizes and also platypi (or is it platypusses?), an echidna and a koala in the wild
